Ceramics Courses at Sydney Ceramics Studios Hornsby - 2024
Course offerings at the studios cater for beginners through to intermediate and advanced levels.
Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses cater for students who wish to pursue a professional studio
practice in Ceramics. Open Studio practice is offered to artists who wish to use the world-class
ceramics facilities at Hornsby.

Tuesday and Wednesday 9am - 4:30pm for 2 years
This qualification provides a comprehensive grounding in the technical and theoretical fundamentals
of the contemporary studio ceramics field. Students are able to plan, design and realize a body of
ceramic work using in-depth skills specific to ceramics technologies, materials and processes.
Dates: 6 February 2024 - 28th November 2025
Full Fee: $12,740.
If eligible, students are able to apply for a VET Student Loan.
Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts (Ceramics) - Course will be advertised closer to the date of enrolment.

This qualification provides a program of advanced study options for refinement of research,
concept development and technical skills in a chosen area of specialization within the field of
studio ceramics. Practice at this level is underpinned by application of art theory and history, the
ability to engage in critical discourse and to debate one’s own work and the work of others.

TAFE Statement in Open Studio Practice - Ceramics

Part-time Thursday 9am - 1:00pm - 4 hours per session for 9 weeks.
This program provides the opportunity for participants who have skills and experience to
work on independent projects in the ceramics studios, utilizing the TAFE NSW facilities.
Technical support is available. Student materials are not included in the course fee.

CUA30720 Certificate III in Design Fundamentals/Ceramics
The Certificate III in Design Fundamentals/Ceramics is designed for beginners who are seeking to start on
an artistic career specialising in Ceramics. You will learn the fundamentals of design in ceramics contexts,
explore a range of techniques and complete finished ceramics works. The course is a pathway into the Diploma of Ceramics.
Part-time study over two years.

Friday 9:00am - 4:00pm for 8 weeks
Learn the foundations of ceramic studio art practice in a supportive and professional environment. Build upon existing wheel forming, design, mould making, hand forming, kiln packing and firing skills. You will refine technical and conceptual skills through a process of experimentation and practice.
Teachers will demonstrate a wide range of specific techniques and skills that you can further develop with clay. This course can be extended into a full year program as a series of four payment terms to give a full range of basic ceramics skills. On completion of the full year, students may articulate into the Diploma of Ceramics
