Mineko Shimazawa
Mineko Shimazawa is a translator-turned ceramicist based in Sydney. Originally trained in Linguistics, she was involved in developing translation systems and later became a translator herself. Her journey in ceramics started only after retiring from work. Although never believing she could create things like born artists, her love of nature and desire to express unseeable feelings in tangible forms urge her to build ceramic vessels. She tries to reproduce sky colours, the feel of wind and the glory of blossoms in her vessels. Now, she regards herself as a translator between nature and ceramics.
She completed the Advanced Diploma in Ceramics at Hornsby TAFE in 2022. She is the winner of the Little Things Art Prize 2022, a finalist for the Gosford Art Prize 2023 and the recipient of the Emerging Artist Award in Klytie Pate Ceramics Award 2023.
